Internet Marketer - Are You Guilty Of Neglecting 40% Of The US Population In Your Marketing?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

As an internet marketer, have you ever considered what segment of the population by age is your target market?

Fair to most established marketers and gurus, it is widespread common knowledge that they teach a wide variety of marketing methods and techniques, chief of which is the need to identify a hot market product that can sell like crazy. And to do so, we go to extra effort to identify the products with the highest keyword searches and the least pages online, to get a competitive edge over other marketers who are selling online similar or equivalent products.

But perhaps we have missed what can be the most lucrative market segment by age in the whole American market.

Let me show you why.

Firstly, there is a fixation by online marketers to push their products to the age group 18-to-34 years with the understanding that they are the younger set who are computer literate and can take to the internet and have little or no qualms about buying online.

But consider this - The US Census Bureau indicates that 40% of the US population is 50 and older, and this group holds 75% of the nation’s financial assets, and this same group did all 55% of all consumer spending!

Indeed, the younger set of old are now the senior citizens, and many older internet users are getting more internet savvy to “trust” the internet and to buy something online. It is no surprise that a recent Nielsen survey showed a growth in this figure -27.4 million people aged 55 or older brought something online during the last 6 months, improving from the figure of 26 million a year ago.

If you have been targeting only the younger population, consider that most senior citizens were eager buyers in clothing, flowers and gifts, shoes, health supplements, travel plans a year ago.

Consider these as niche markets to the older population, and build some support system to help the less internet savvy to interact with your sales platform. Studies have shown that where there is an human support or contact number on your sales website, the majority of those using the service was aged 35 and above. It therefore makes sense if you are targeting this older population set to include an interactive contact number or email support.

The older population set are not ancient yet, and they are not relics. Once they get more technological savy, this older population set can become the most loyal online buyers, and they are the ones who hold the purse strings and can enhance your bottomline.

The Challenges We Face As Internet Marketers

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Copyright 2006 llbglobal

The one thing all of use in these communities have in common is the drive, passion, and desire to do something better for our families and ourselves. We all try to think outside of the box. If you are anything like me, then you surely are not satisfied with a meager lifestyle, a dead end job, or settling for less when you know you can have more. It is our desires that keep us motivated, intrigued, and full of inspiration and hope.

Recently someone told me ?Oh I?m not into that new age stuff?. I simply replied ?What new age stuff?? The principals of success are not something new or just discovered. These principals have been around forever. Just because you may be new to these concepts does not mean that the concepts themselves are new.

As an Internet Marketer we start out seeking the knowledge and know-how to achieve success. Some of us get sidetracked because we are tossed into a whirlwind of product promotions, Advertisements, and other distractions. It can be difficult deciding which program will work best for me. Which ebook will tell me what I need to know? We may try some of these things and then we are left with more questions.

The biggest challenge really isn?t about finding the right ebook or program, it?s about finding yourself. Who you are and what you want out of life. You can shrug your shoulders and say to yourself, this guy doesn?t know what he?s talking about. But if you haven?t been successful yet then you may want to analyze yourself before judging others. Success doesn?t come easy for most people. The reason is because we resist it in our minds even when we think we are headed in the right direction.

Becoming successful in business has to start with becoming successful in life. Are you doing the things you know you should be doing? Are you focused on what you really want? We all have a million great ideas bouncing around in our heads but no way to express them. We look and look for solutions but in the end we are disappointed at the outcome. Part of the reason for this disappointment is the fact that we do not take the time to plan. Too many people are looking for the grand slam home run that will make them an overnight millionaire. The truth is that it doesn?t happen like that. We all see and hear stories of overnight success and they do happen but you may as well bank on winning the lottery because the odds are probably better.

Success comes from planning and preparation. It comes from having a vision with the right mindset to act and accomplish the goals you set out to achieve. It comes from believing in yourself and your ideas. Never wavering in your times of despair. Never accepting anything less that your dreams being fulfilled. For some of use this comes easy and for others it takes a bit of work.

Only you can create your own success. You will not find it in a book, a program or anywhere else. That is not to say that we do not still need to educate ourselves because we certainly do. Have you ever heard the phrase ?Business smarts?? That?s what you have to have. You have to be smart and act smart. You have to analyze each situation to assess its perceived value to you. You have to find a way to convince yourself that you are successful even before you really are. You must act the part. You must see yourself in those shoes.

Stop yourself for a moment and start observing the world around you. Learn to concentrate on what you want to achieve. Learn as much as you can and store the information in your memory. Remember to be a person of reason, a person of a giving nature, and a person of character. Lastly, Everything you think about requires action. It is through your actions that you will start to see your own progress. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and do for yourself! Stop worrying about how to achieve your goals and focus on ?KNOWING? that you will see them to fruition.

Draw Targeted Website Traffic For Increased Profits

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Targeted website traffic is comprised of visitors to your web site who are interested in your website’s niche and expected to be responsive to your product recommendations.

As you can tell, targeted website traffic is the sought after holy grail of Internet marketing. Every profitable Internet marketer seeks more targeted traffic in order to improve sales and get a higher return on their investment.

In view of the fact that the most important ambition of an online business is to make a profit, one of the strategic goals must be to become a magnet for as much targeted traffic as possible. Thus, the main interest of every online businessperson is to find out techniques to acquire a never-ending stream of already qualified, attentive visitors to their site. Plus, every entrepreneur wants to know how to use their advertising funds in the best way to expose their website to interested prospects who are liable to buy.

Some cost-effective techniques are regularly utilized to keep that flood of targeted traffic coming. Here are some of the highly acclaimed methods.

Build Relationships

One of the most significant concepts in advertising is that your best customer is often a repeat customer. Once a prospect buys from you it’s vital to hold on to that customer for future purchases. The best method to do this online is to encourage your customers to opt in to your mailing list or at least subscribe to your RSS feed. Repeated communications with existing customers permits you to develop a relationship of trust that will help guarantee future purchases.

Many online marketers profit from several mailing lists. One list is for existing customers. You realize these subscribersare already buyers and this list is one of the most valuable resources you will ever own. Another list is for interested prospects who have not yet made a purchase. While not as beneficial as the list of buyers, this list of pre-qualified prospects is also highly valuable.

Become a Magnet for New Visitors

Besides retaining current customers, you ought to expand your marketing efforts to attract new prospects. There are various techniques to do this including search engine optimization (SEO) and pay per click (PPC) promotion.

Search engine optimization is a term that in essence means to make your website appealing to search engines so your pages will rank high in the search results for important keyword phrases. SEO activities are classified according to whether they affect your own website (on page optimization) or other, external websites (off page optimization).

On page optimization involves constructing pages that focus on significant keyword phrases. A page that focuses on “parrot food” should use that phrase several times within the page in normal text and in headings. Other pages on your web site will use “parrot food” as the link text pointing to that page.

Off page optimization primarily involves cooperating with other owners of websites to get them to place links on their websites to pages on your website. If your web site has lots of quality content it may be considered an “authority” site and other webmasters will organically link to your site. If your web site is newsworthy for some reason, local or national news sites may include a story on the subject of your website on their site with a link to your site.

The majority of sites, conversely, do not rate spontaneous links from other sites. So, website owners must undertake a variety of marketing efforts to acquire links from other sites. Many site owners publish press releases that they then provide to numerous sites that accept press releases for distribution. Perhaps the most popular approach is to write articles and distribute them to article directories.

Article marketing entails researching, writing and distributing articles to attract targeted traffic. These articles can then be used in newsletters or copied on other websites. The articles must be instructive and directly associated with some feature of the website you are marketing. While the article itself should not be promotional, you can include a short resource box with marketing material and links to your website. When your article is used in a newsletter or added to another website your resource box is included and your website gets additional publicity.

Pay per click (PPC) advertising is another way to attract new prospects. In PPC advertising you target one or more significant keyword phrases associated with your website. You then develop a short 3 or 4 line ad that will attract someone interested in that keyword phrase. You then bid for placement of your ad and pay each time someone clicks a link to your website. While this can be successful, competition for keyword phrases is often intense and profits may be low or nonexistent.

Therefore, as a marketer of products on a website of your own, you’ll want to investigate some of these techniques for drawing targeted website traffic in more depth. Learn all you can and start attracting those interested prospects to your web site.
